Summer Activities in Concord

Welcome to summertime in Concord. School’s out. The sun is shining. And the weather is warm. To celebrate the beginnings of summer, let’s explore all the fun summer activities happening in June and beyond!

The 35th Annual Garden Tour

Smell the flowers at Concord’s 35th Annual Garden Tour on June 7 and 8. Every year, The Concord Museum Guild of Volunteers hosts a garden tour where six private gardens are selected and featured throughout Concord. Each garden perfectly captures the owner’s passions within the landscaping and vegetation space; you’ll discover manicured gardens, cultivated flower beds, Japanese-inspired gardens, and low-maintenance gardens that are grass-free.

Do you have a garden or are you interested in starting one? The Garden Tour will include an “Ask the Arborist” booth to answer all your anticipated questions. Purchase a ticket today, or sign up to volunteer for free admission. All the funding raised supports the museum’s educational initiatives.

ConcordPride 24 & Juneteenth

June marks the beginning of Pride Month in the United States, a time dedicated to honoring and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. For Concord MA, Pride Month will be celebrated with a list of fun events beginning on June 21st and running through June 23, 2024. While there is no set schedule for specific events yet, check back here for more information and updates about ConcordPride24.

In June, we also celebrate Juneteenth, a time to commemorate the end of slavery. We will have updates on scheduled events in Concord.

Swimming at Walden Pond

Cool off at Walden Pond situated within the Walden Pond State Reservation. Located on 915 Walden Street Concord, MA, this state reservation is full of woods and wilderness that inspired author Henry David Thoreau’s novel Walden: Or Life in the Woods. You can swim, hike, or even ride a boat along the water. While enjoying the crisp air and beautiful scenery, you’ll also feel like you jumped back in time to the mid-1880s. The reservation is open from Sunday to Saturday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Kayak or Canoe with the South Bridge Boat House

Try kayaking or canoeing in Concord’s three major rivers: Sudbury, Assabet, and the Concord Rivers. From April 1 to November 1, 2024, you and your family can rent a canoe or kayak from the South Bridge Boathouse and glide on the waters. The South Bridge Boathouse is a family-owned business located in Concord that is near the Sudbury River.

Ice Cream at Bedford Ice Cream

What better way to end a hot summer day than by getting some ice cream? This award-winning ice cream shop is located in both Concord and Bedford, Massachusetts. This shop serves over 60 flavors of locally-sourced ice cream. Some of their special flavors include Apple Pie, Banana Chip, Frozen Pudding, Orange Pineapple, and Toasted Coconut. Bedford Ice Cream also makes its own ice cream cakes and ice cream pies. The sweet treat choices are endless here.

Whether you’re a gardening fanatic, interested in water-filled activities, or want updates on community and nationwide celebrations, Concord will ensure you have an awesome summer when you make the choice to visit.
