Congratulations to the Winners of the Concord250 High School Student Essay Contest!
The Concord250 Essay Contest invited high school students living in or attending school in Concord to reflect on the town’s historical significance since the American Revolution—and even earlier—while envisioning the changes they hope to see in the next 50 years.
Participants were challenged to capture their expectations, predictions, and creative visions of life in 2075 within a 1,000-word limit.
After careful review by two panels of judges, five outstanding essays were selected for special recognition. Congratulations to the winners: Lucy Butler, Madeleine Clancy, Aurora Hao, Noah Jina, and Sanjeev Sridhar, representing Concord Academy and Concord-Carlisle High School.
The winners were honored during a celebratory ceremony at Wright Tavern. Radha Jalan and Joe Zellner, members of the Concord250 Community Participation Subcommittee and key organizers of the contest, welcomed the winners, their families, and community members. Tom Wilson of Wright Tavern Legacy Trust provided a fascinating overview of the Tavern’s history.
Two of the contest judges, Maria Madison and Jeffrey Greene, shared highlights of the winning essays and their thoughtful reflections on what made each one stand out. Supporters Sally Sanford and Sandy Smith presented each winner with an honorarium to invest in their educational journeys. Holly Cratsley presented each student with a certificate of recognition from Massachusetts State Representatives.
