South Burying Ground

South Burying Ground, also called Main Street Burying Ground, is Concord’s second-oldest burial site.

A Burial Site for Revolutionary Heroes and Famous Concord Figures

At South Burying Ground, you’ll find the graves of many historical Concord figures, including Revolutionary War Veterans. Other notable Concord figures include Ruth Wood, the daughter of William Wood, who was the first man to explore Musketaquid (original name for Concord) to establish an English settlement.

Concord’s Role in the Revolutionary War

Concord set the scene for one of the earliest battles of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775. In this battle, the Minutemen and the Redcoats fought at the Old North Bridge, where the British then retreated to Boston, with the Minutemen chasing after them. At South Burying Ground, you’ll find 13 graves decorated with markers indicating the individuals were Revolutionary War veterans
