Old Hill Burying Ground
Old Hill Burying Ground is Concord’s oldest cemetery, located on a hillside overlooking the town center. Near the site of Concord’s first small meetinghouse in 1635, the burying ground now houses 500 graves.
Historical Figures Buried in Old Hill Burying Ground
The earliest grave in this burying ground is that of Joseph Mirriam, an English-born early settler who died in 1677. Another burial site includes the grave of John Jack, the first formerly enslaved person in Concord to purchase land. Other notable grave sites include those of former British soldier Hugh Cargill and Colonel James Barrett.
