Most needed new and unopened items are: \n\nCleaning supplies such as dish soap\, all-purpose cleaner\, sponges\, laundry detergent\, paper towels\, trash bags\nBaby necessities such as diapers\, diaper cream\, wipes\, baby soap\, baby lotion\nWinter coats\, hats\, gloves (can be gently used)\n\n  \nAll supply donations will benefit The Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center.

Join the Discovery Museum as we engage in small acts of service to benefit our neighbors. \n  \nMake a Welcome Card for and help collect “Welcome Basket” supplies to support the Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center\, an organization dedicated to providing comprehensive services to refugees\, asylees\, and immigrants in Massachusetts. Welcome Baskets provide families and individuals with essential household goods necessary for day-to-day life. Most needed new and unopened items are: \n\nCleaning supplies such as dish soap\, all-purpose cleaner\, sponges\, laundry detergent\, paper towels\, trash bags\nBaby necessities such as diapers\, diaper cream\, wipes\, baby soap\, baby lotion\nWinter coats\, hats\, gloves (can be gently used)\n\n  \nAll supply donations will benefit The Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center.

SUMMARY:Discovery Museum Speaker Series: Does Parenting Have To Be This Hard? What Babies Can Teach Us
DESCRIPTION:Discovery Museum Speaker Series event with Dr. J. Kevin Nugent\, Founder and Director Emeritus of the Brazelton Institute in the Division of Developmental Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital \n  \nAmerican parents are finding parenting much harder than they expected.  Over 80% of parents use internet search engines to look for parenting advice\, but less than 50% of them found the results to be trustworthy. Almost 70% of parents say they would use more positive parenting strategies if only they knew them. So\, where do we find these more positive parenting strategies that go beyond the prescriptive expert-driven “how to” approach of the internet?  Our research suggests that the baby can teach us most of what we need to know as parents\, since children influence the way their parents behave as much as parents influence their children. In fact\, much of what looks like the effect of genes may really be the result of the way genes feed back on the environment. Event is free\, advance registration is required.

DESCRIPTION:Late Summer/early Fall is the time when many trees and plants release their seeds to grow a new generation. These seeds have some ingenious ways of getting where they need to go. Some tempt animals to eat them\, which gives them a free ride and provides fertilizer at the same time! Some parachute from trees\, float on the air or water\, or shoot out from seed pods like missiles. Join us to see what kinds of seeds we can find in Discovery Woods and on the Great Hill Conservation Land!
