SUMMARY:Transformed by Revolution at the Concord Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join Curator talks at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on October 3. Free with admission.  \nWhile Concord’s role in the start of the American Revolution is widely recognized\, less well known are the continued experiences of disruption and turmoil in Concord throughout the war. What was it like to be part of this war-time community? Who participated in this fight for Independence and what did freedom and Independence mean to different people? When the war ended\, how did local communities develop as part of a fragile new nation?  \nThrough eyewitness historical objects\, artworks\, and documents\, Transformed by Revolution explores what it was like to be part of this war-time community that hosted Harvard College and became a hub of military supplies for the army in Boston. The exhibition also considers who participated in this fight for Independence and the meanings of freedom for women\, the Black community\, and sovereign Indigenous nations. These stories are traced through the end of the war and into the years of the early Republic to explore shifting ideas about community\, belonging\, and what it meant to be part of the new nation.

Join us for the opening reception on Jan 28 at 6 PM celebrating Inspirational Jam and Marsha Wilcox’s Ancient Light (RSVPs appreciated).  \nWorking in acrylics\, Ristaino builds layers of bold color that capture the transcendence of live music and fantastical worlds. In his jazz series\, Ristaino’s canvases become stages where musicians lean into their instruments\, vocalists throw their heads back in ecstatic song\, and the audience communes over the pleasure of spontaneous creativity. His paintings don’t just document performance; they are improvisations themselves. \nRistaino’s Ancient Cities take us to unknown\, and yet familiar\, places. He combines castles and pirate ships with UFO’s and ancient pyramids to build a world of pure creativity. High-Energy Bucket Drumming\nJoin us for a dynamic\, hands-on workshop that proves you don’t need fancy equipment to make incredible music! With nothing more than buckets and drumsticks\, participants of all skill levels can dive into an energizing and collaborative drumming session. \nIn this exciting\, rhythmic workshop\, you will be guided by CCM faculty member Tsuyoshi Honjo  through a series of exercises that build rhythmic mastery\, helping you deepen your understanding of musical timing\, pulse\, and complex syncopation. You will also experience the power of the collective groove\, strengthening teamwork and communication skills through shared\, focused drumming\, while enjoying the exhilarating\, high-energy release of stress reduction. \nYou’ll gain practical experience creating layered rhythms and intricate patterns. This unique experience strengthens musical connections and is proof that anyone can make music if they find the right beat. \nWho Should Attend? This dynamic workshop is designed for participants who are interested in teamwork\, focus\, and rhythmic development. Participants should have a minimum of 1 year of prior musical training (in any instrument\, voice\, or genre). Students younger than age 8 may participate if accompanied by a registered adult.
