SUMMARY:A Celebration Heard ‘Round the World – An Exhibition presented by the William Munroe Special Collections
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition features selections from the William Munroe Special Collections and the Town Archives\, including art\, photographs\, broadsides\, Town records\, and ephemera that explore how Concordians have celebrated the anniversary of the Battle of Concord\, or the “Concord Fight\,” on April 19\, 1775. Learn how celebrations have combined public interest and trends with historical commemoration and how these events have evolved. While mainstay traditions like parades\, invited speakers\, balls\, and re-enactments have prevailed and changed\, new traditions have also been introduced\, reflecting the community’s diverse interests. \nIn addition\, on the First Floor of the Main Library\, selections from the Town Archives and the William Munroe Special Collections offer a rich cache of manuscript and printed primary source materials providing insight into events leading up to\, on\, and following April 19\, 1775. Many of these documents offer small glimpses into the Concord Fight’s human impact and the American Revolution’s beginnings. Using these items\, we highlight the actions of soldiers\, Patriots of Color\, and women to tell a more complete story about the Concord Fight and the people who lived it.

DESCRIPTION:Concord 250: Monumental (Re)Make \n\nCelebrate the 250th birthday of the battles of Concord and Lexington by helping us recreate Daniel Chester French’s iconic statue The Minute Man through collaborative 3D printing! \n\n\n\n \nWhat is this?\nThe Workshop is collaborating with local artist and author Dr. Linda Booth Sweeney to reimagine and reproduce a scale model of Daniel Chester French’s iconic statue The Minute Man through a collaborative 3D printing process! There are two ways to participate: \n#1 Print a Part.\nMakers of all ages are invited to visit the Workshop any time during regular Open Maker Hours to 3D print a part (or several!) of The Minute Man! Just follow the instructions to reserve a 3D printer and ask for a design file when you arrive! The Minute Man is a great project for beginners\, but if you’re new to our machines\, we strongly recommend reviewing our instructional materials before your visit \n#2 Build Together.\nMakers of all ages can also attend one of our interactive building sessions throughout the year to learn more about The Minute Man and 3D modeling and printing from Workshop staff and local artist and author Dr. Linda Booth Sweeney\, while assembling the pieces printed by our neighbors! Find upcoming sessions on the Workshop Calendar! \nWhere will the final project be displayed?\nNo matter how you choose to participate\, all contributors will have the opportunity to add their name to our makers record to be displayed alongside the completed project at the Library in 2025. \nIsn’t that a lot of plastic?\nYes\, it is! As a Certified Sustainable Library\, we take the environmental impact of a project like this very seriously. All components of the (Re)Make will be composed of PLA\, a vegetable-based plastic. DESCRIPTION:To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution\, the Concord Museum is proud to share the new special exhibition\, Whose Revolution. \nOpening March 28\, Whose Revolution offers a fresh\, inclusive perspective on this pivotal moment in American history\, centering the experiences of women\, Indigenous communities\, and free and enslaved Black people who grappled with the meaning of revolution in their own lives. Through a rich array of objects\, from paintings\, prints\, and political cartoons to historic clothing\, textiles\, furniture\, and ceramics\, as well as film and multimedia installations\, Whose Revolution provides a vivid and tangible sense of what it was like to live through this dramatic period of mounting tension and crisis and the significance of this history today. \nFeatured objects include a lavish British Spitalfields silk gown and other historic textiles illuminating the experiences of women and children\, a media installation exploring the lives of free and enslaved Black people in Concord\, a new commissioned wampum choker by Elizabeth James-Perry (Aquinnah Wampanoag)\, and a film with Elizabeth Solomon (Massachusett) reflecting on the meaning of the American Revolution within Indigenous communities in Massachusetts. Whose Revolution will also feature portraits by John Singleton Copley\, a first printing of Phillis Wheatley’s Poems on Various Subjects\, ceramics\, and prints\, on loan for the special exhibition. \n\nGet Tickets

This town supported celebration is a formal recognition of the dignity and importance of this holiday for all residents of Concord and those who visit. \nThe Concord Select Board signed a proclamation which declared June 19\, 2023 Juneteenth National Independence Day. In addition\, an amendment to the flag policy was approved which provides for the flying of a Juneteenth flag with the American flag. We invite the Concord community to join us for celebratory events that honor our history and our community. \nFAQ\n\nJuneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Deriving its name from combining “June” and “nineteenth”\, it is celebrated on the anniversary of the order\, issued by Major General Gordon Granger on June 19\, 1865\, proclaiming freedom for the enslaved in Texas\, the last to freed.\nOriginating in Galveston\, Juneteenth has since been observed annually in various parts of the United States\, often broadly celebrating African American culture. The day was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021\, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act\nTexans celebrated Juneteenth beginning in 1866 with community-centric events\, such as parades\, cookouts\, prayer gatherings\, historical and cultural readings\, and musical performances. Over time\, communities have developed their own traditions. Some communities purchased land for Juneteenth celebrations\, such as Emancipation Park in Houston\, Texas. As families emigrated from Texas to other parts of the United States\, they carried Juneteenth celebrations with them.\nJuneteenth National Independence Day commemorates the day of freedom for African Americans and acknowledges the resilience and determination of African Americans while honoring all those who have paved the road to freedom; and Juneteenth is a second Independence Day for our Nation\, a celebratory day of African American culture to recognize the many contributions and influence that the African American community has made to our Nation.\nThe Juneteenth flag was designed by activist Ben Haith\, the founder of the National Juneteenth Celebration Foundation (NJCF) in 1997.  The design was later refined to its current form by illustrator Lisa Jeanne Grafe.  The intentional call back to the Texas Lone Star in the middle represents the Lone Star State and all Black Americans in the US.  The red\, white\, and blue color scheme is a reminder that enslaved people and their descendants were and are\, Americans.  The arc shape represents a new horizon of hope and promise for Black American with the nova surrounding the star representing a new beginning for all.

His engaging shows are designed to bring smiles and wonder to kids and adults alike. \nVisitors can expect extended business hours at shops\, galleries\, and eateries\, alongside sidewalk games\, chalk art\, and hands-on arts activities. DESCRIPTION:As part of Concord’s 250th celebration The Concord Players are pleased to present “Songs for a New World”         June 20 – 22\, 2025 \nThe Performing Arts Center\, 51 Walden Street\, Concord\, MA \nSongs for a New World uses the music of Jason Robert Brown to depict the most intense moment any person can go through: a moment of tremendous change.  The show is somewhere between musical and song cycle – a series of songs all connected by a theme: ‘the moment of decision’. \n\nWith a rousing score that blends elements of pop\, gospel and jazz\, featuring tight harmonies and darling vocals\, Songs for a New World transports its audience from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship bound for a new land\, to the ledge of a New York penthouse. Characters range from the mother of a Revolutionary soldier awaiting the end of the brutal war\, to a young man in the Bronx dreaming of becoming a famous basketball player\, to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches. \n\nA small\, but powerful\, diverse cast and a supercharged\, well-crafted score appeal to old and new generations alike as each character — in their own way — takes hold of that one moment and enters a new world. \nAccording to the composer\, Songs for a New World is “about one moment. SUMMARY:Patriots of Color Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, 1:30pm Tours \nMarch 22\, 2025 – June 30\, 2025 \nBetween twenty and forty colonists who fought along the Battle Road on April 19\, 1775\, were of African descent or Indigenous people. Although excluded from required militia service prior to the war\, these individuals of color were the first of many to take up arms between 1775 and 1783. \nBy the end of the conflict\, an estimated 5\,500 African and Indigenous  men served on the colonial side. Unfortunately\, systemic racism and historical bias have erased or buried many records of Black and Indigenous people who played a prominent role in the founding of the United States. In this 90 minute walking tour we will examine the known history and stories of these Patriots of Color who fought for freedom locally both during the American Revolution and beyond. Minuteman National Park\, Robbins House and Concord Visitors Center staff will lead this tour examining the incredible stories of individuals who risked everything during their struggle for liberty\, equality\, and freedom for all.\n\nTour meets at the North Bridge Lower Lot.  All ages are welcome.
