SUMMARY:Network
DESCRIPTION:Nearly a half-century after Paddy Chayefsky’s chillingly prescient\, Oscar-winning black comedy Network became a cinematic classic\, Lee Hall’s potent and provocative new stage adaptation remains as relevant as ever as we grapple with truth\, authenticity\, and the search for meaning in a digital age. \n  \nVeteran news anchor Howard Beale isn’t pulling in the viewers. But when his on-air meltdown sparks a revolution\, Howard suddenly becomes the biggest thing on TV – a ”mad prophet of the airwaves” determined to speak truth to power\, but buffeted by industrial\, political and economic forces with ultimately dire consequences. \n  \nHall’s adaptation “takes on fresh fury in a sizzling stage production…that feels less satiric but more urgent” (Variety) in today’s polarized and media-saturated landscape. Fittingly\, this production is helmed by Ashley Kelly Tata\, a noted multimedia director whose immersive works have been called “fervently inventive\,” by the New York Times. Like the award-winning West End and Broadway productions\, The Umbrella’s production will employ thoroughly integrated multimedia storytelling elements evocative of the film’s masterful use of television ads and industrial sets\, courtesy of innovative NYC-based designer Afsoon Pajoufar. \n  \n“Network remains one of the most remarkable\, if not eerily prescient films of all time\,” says Producing Artistic Director Brian Boruta. “That something written almost 50 years ago could speak so singularly to our present moment is astonishing. It’s a thrill to bring this landmark play to The Umbrella’s stage.” \n  \nThe cast features some of Boston’s biggest names like Barlow Adamson\, Amy Barker\, Steve Barkhimer\, Will McGarrahan\, and Bill Mootos as Howard Beale. \n  \nRunning Sept. 20-Nov. 3 (press opening Friday Sept. 27\, 7:30PM)\, the play will run in rotation with The Umbrella’s production of Now. Here. This\, a new musical from the team that brought you [title of show]\, that tackles life’s big questions with inimitable humor and humanity. \n  \nSelect performances will feature additional engagement opportunities for audience members: \n\n Dinner & A Show packages are available for all Thursday night performances \n Talk Backs are scheduled following performances on Oct. 13 and Oct. 24 \n Childcare with art activities for youth ages 5-12 is available through The Umbrella’s Kid Care program for parents interested in attending the Oct. 13 matinee\n\nDiscounts for students\, seniors\, groups\, Card-to-Culture eligible attendees \nGroup Discounts: Groups of 10 – 14 save 10%; groups of 15 and up save 15%. \nEBT\, WIC\, ConnectorCare Card-to-Culture discounts available. The Umbrella is ADA accessible\, a proud partner in the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s EBT Card-to-Culture program\, and provides free parking and free admission to its visual arts galleries. SUMMARY:Now. Here. This.
DESCRIPTION:The Umbrella Stage Company is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of “Now. Here. This.” – a musical jaunt that explores humor\, heart\, and self-discovery. Set against the backdrop of cosmic adventures\, four friends share stories about identity\, laughter\, living\, and middle school\, all while attempting to step directly into the elusive “present moment.” \n  \nHailed by The New York Times as “a blend of good humor and good feeling with an audience-embracing brio that never flags” this new show comes from the creative minds behind “[title of show]”.  \n  \nMore than just a musical\, it’s a celebration of life\, love\, connection\, and the boundless potential of the human spirit. \n  \nRunning Oct. 4-Nov. 10 (press opening Thursday Oct. 10\, 7:30PM)\, the show will run in rotation with The Umbrella’s production of Network\, the hard-hitting satire based on the classic film. \n  \nSelect performances will feature additional engagement opportunities for audience members: \n  \n\nDinner & A Show packages are available for all Thursday night performances\nTalk Back scheduled following performance on Nov. 7\nChildcare with art activities for youth ages 5-12 is available through The Umbrella’s Kid Care program for parents interested in attending the Oct. 27 matinee \n\n  \nThe Umbrella is ADA accessible\, a proud partner in the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s EBT Card-to-Culture program\, and provides free parking and free admission to its visual arts galleries. SUMMARY:Concord’s Monumental (Re)Make
DESCRIPTION:October 15 @ 1:00 PM\n\n\nCelebrate the 250th birthday of the battles of Concord and Lexington by helping us recreate Daniel Chester French’s iconic statue The Minute Man through collaborative 3D printing! \nWhat is this?\nThe Workshop is collaborating with local artist and author Dr. Linda Booth Sweeney to reimagine and reproduce a scale model of Daniel Chester French’s iconic statue The Minute Man through a collaborative 3D printing process! There are two ways to participate: \n#1 Print a Part.\nMakers of all ages are invited to visit the Workshop any time during regular Open Maker Hours to 3D print a part (or several!) of The Minute Man! Just follow the instructions to reserve a 3D printer and ask for a design file when you arrive! The Minute Man is a great project for beginners\, but if you’re new to our machines\, we strongly recommend reviewing our instructional materials before your visit \n#2 Build Together.\nMakers of all ages can also attend one of our interactive building sessions throughout the year to learn more about The Minute Man and 3D modeling and printing from Workshop staff and local artist and author Dr. Linda Booth Sweeney\, while assembling the pieces printed by our neighbors! Find upcoming sessions on the Workshop Calendar! \nWhere will the final project be displayed?\nNo matter how you choose to participate\, all contributors will have the opportunity to add their name to our makers record to be displayed alongside the completed project at the Library in 2025. \nIsn’t that a lot of plastic?\nYes\, it is! As a Certified Sustainable Library\, we take the environmental impact of a project like this very seriously. All components of the (Re)Make will be composed of PLA\, a vegetable-based plastic. The Library has secured a speciality recycling vendor to process the statue and any waste materials in the event that the statue must be disposed of. \nMy school/company/non-profit organization has a 3D printer – can we help?\nYes! Just complete our (Re)Make Partnership Interest Form\, and our staff will be happy to reach out with more information.
