SUMMARY:We Were Friends Play
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning Firelight Theatre Workshop presents We Were Friends\, a playful reimagining of Margaret Fuller and Ralph Waldo Emerson’s profound friendship set in today’s world. In this 12-part series (two episodes of which are being performed at the Concord Museum this summer)\, Firelight explores the intimate and private moments of this deep\, platonic friendship. The series moves non-chronologically: each episode stands alone\, and yet each is a puzzle piece in the larger portrait of their friendship. In this first installment\, Two Years In: Birthdays\, we invite you to join Margaret and Waldo as they celebrate their birthdays on two distant picnic blankets. Margaret is suffering from a cold and indecision. Waldo\, a rising writer and speaker\, wonders about Beauty: is it always there\, or is there never enough of it? Bring your own picnic blanket and join Margaret and Waldo on the Museum’s front lawn for this outdoor performance. Following the performance\, writers and performers Nora Fifer and Jason Lambert and co-writer Henry Walters will participate in a talk-back with the audience. $10 Member | $12 Non-Member (Receive a $2 discount if you purchase tickets to both performances in advance of the first performance)

SUMMARY:The Merry Wives of Windsor
DESCRIPTION:Presenting our summer Shakespeare:\nThe Merry Wives of Windsor\n(Performances: July 20 – 28\, 2024)\n\n\n\n\nDirected by Jim Porter\nThe Merry Wives of Windsor is a fun frolic\, a comedy that lampoons the idea that the men are the cleverer of the sexes\, and that reinforces the concept of true love. With themes of love and marriage\, jealousy and revenge\, social class and wealth\, and plot points such as Falstaff sending identical love letters to two wealthy married women\, and three different men vying for the hand of the young Anne Page\, it’s a bit reminiscent of a soap opera. So while remaining true to Shakespeare’s language in our condensed version\, we’re presenting this play as a modern-day soap opera\, complete with villains\, heroes/heroines\, clever characters and oafish egotistical suitors. This rollicking comedic romp focuses on the town of Windsor and is the only Shakespearean play located totally in England. We hope that you will come to laugh\, to think\, and to enjoy. \nDirected by Jim Porter\nTo be performed on the lawn in front of the Concord MA Main Library\nSaturdays and Sundays at 5:00 PM\,\nJuly 20\, 21\, 27\, 28\, 2024\n(Rain venue: 51 Walden Street\, Concord) \nWith an evening performance on\nFriday\, July 26\, 2024 at 7:00 PM\n(at 51 Walden Street\, Concord) \n** Bonus Performance **\nTuesday\, July 23 at 7:00 PM\n(outdoors at the Hyde Community Center\,\n90 Lincoln St.\, Newton Highlands\, MA)\nFree Admission!\nFor library lawn performances:\nA limited number of chairs and open space will be available\,\nbut bring a lawn chair for guaranteed seating and comfort.\nIf you like\, bring a snack or beverage

SUMMARY:What Makes History? New Stories from the Collection
DESCRIPTION:Open until August 18\nThe things we keep matter for the stories we tell. What objects do we choose to preserve\, and who is able to collect them? Why were they once valued\, and how can we continue to see them in new ways? \nThis special exhibition explores what it means to make history through object collecting\, preservation\, and storytelling. Visitors will see a variety of collections from the Museum’s holdings\, offering the rare opportunity to look closely at several kinds of a particular item. By displaying these eclectic collections together\, What Makes History encourages visitors to think about how and why these objects were saved so that we might view them decades and even centuries later. \nHighlights include a sampling of the Museum’s vast collection of fans from around the world\, beautifully painted fireplace bellows produced by free Black workers in Acton\, MA\, in the 19th century\, as well as chairs\, textiles\, card cases\, and timepieces. Many of these objects have never before been on view. \nWe invite you to come look closely at these remarkable items\, join us as we ask new questions\, and consider how we can continue to expand what makes history together. \nSupported by WBUR. \nBellow Tops\, Davis Bellows Factory\, mid-1840s\, Acton\, Ma.
