Outdoors interpretative sculptures reflecting the bathtub metaphor’s systems dynamics will express an art/science collaborative vision for our climate future. \n  \nThe Umbrella is ADA accessible\, and provides free parking and free admission to its visual arts galleries. \n  \nRELATED ACTIVITIES \n  \nThursday\, April 11\, 5-7:30PM \nOpening reception and environmental mixer\, artist-scientist panel discussion\, and remarks by public officials and the curators. \n  \nSaturday\, April 20\, 1-5PM \nYouth Forward Climate Action Day\, featuring Mend-a-thon\, Youth-led guided tours\, Free Family Fun Activity\, “Heartbeat Space” projection installation by Casey Figueroa\, Eco Slow Fashion Show\, and other activities. SUMMARY:The Full Monty
DESCRIPTION:Book by Terrence McNally; Music and Lyrics by David Yazbek \nMain Stage Theater 144 \nApr 26 – May 19\, 2024 \nRun-time @ 2.5 Hours with Intermission \nThe Umbrella Stage Company presents the beloved\, raucous\, pop-rock-musical send-up of gender expectations and stereotypes… that takes it all off! April 26-May 19 \nBased on the cult hit film of the same name\, The Full Monty is a ten-time Tony-nominated Americanized adaptation that’s filled with honest affection\, engaging melodies\, a ton of humor…and the most highly anticipated closing number of any show! \nWhile spying on their wives at a “Girls’ Night Out\,” a group of unemployed steelworkers from Buffalo sees how much they enjoy watching male strippers. Jealous\, out of work and feeling emasculated\, the men come up with a bold and unclothed way to make some quick cash. In preparing\, they find themselves extremely exposed; not merely physically but emotionally. As they conquer their fears\, self-consciousness and prejudices\, the men come to discover that they’re stronger as a group\, and the strength that they find in each other gives them the individual courage to “let it go.” Right to the end\, audiences will be wondering if these lovable misfits will really pull it off.  \nConceived by the powerhouse team of Terrence McNally (Ragtime) and David Yazbek (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) with a raucous mix of razor-sharp humor and toe-tapping pizzazz\, this heartwarming\, upbeat comedy features an ensemble cast of some of Boston’s favorite actors directed for The Umbrella Stage Company by multi-Elliot Norton Award winner Leigh Barrett. \nSelect performances will feature additional audience engagement opportunities including: Optional Thursday-night Dinner & A Show Packages\, post-show Talk Backs\, and childcare for parents interested in attending the May 5 matinee through The Umbrella’s Kid Care program. \nThe Umbrella is ADA accessible\, a proud partner in the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s EBT Card-to-Culture program\, and provides free parking and free admission to its visual arts galleries. \nThis show is Rated R and contains strong language\, adult themes\, attempted self-harm\, and brief nudity. Audience members should use their judgment about attendance. \nSee https://TheUmbrellaArts.org/Monty for more information.

SUMMARY:CONCORD250 ESSAY SUBMISSIONS DUE!
DESCRIPTION:SUBMIT YOUR ESSAY HERE by end of the day April 30\, 2024\nCalling all high school writers!  Compete in a short essay contest to receive a $500 cash honorarium to invest in your future! The top 5 submissions will get published and will receive a $500 cash honorarium.\nIf you like to write at all\, please check out this fun topic and competition to help us celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and earn a Concord250 Certificate just for participating.\n\nSUBMIT HERE\nWhat is it? \nNext year – 2025\, Concord and the entire nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the American Revolution—“The shot heard round the world”.  It is possible that you might be living in Concord another 50 years from now to experience the Tricentennial commemoration in 2075.  What do you think life in America will be like?  What do you think will have changed 50 years from now? What will be the predominant features of life in the nation\, physically or ideologically?  What will have happened to Concord? What will have drawn new residents to Concord\, or what might have caused residents to leave? Any of these and all other topics can be the issues that you may look into to foresee and describe what will be known and common in the year 2075.  Your essay is to describe what will be. What do you think? \n  \nWho is eligible and what do I have to do? \nStudents in grades 9 – 12 who are living in Concord or attending school in Concord are eligible. \nYou have to write an essay of no more than 1000 words. \nYou have to submit your essay online here by end of day April 30\, 2024.\n  \nThis sounds like a lot of work\, is it? \nMake it fun.  Interview relatives\, neighbors or friends who lived in Concord 50 years ago and get a feeling of how much has changed in the last 50 years. Use your imagination to define your own vision of what you think life will be like 50 years from now. And 1000 words should only take a few hours spread over the next 4 months. But don’t wait to get started! \n  \nHow does my essay get graded? \nUse standard written English grammar and mechanics. Give details and examples as needed and cite sources for specialized information that is not your own. Your essay will be evaluated on its clarity\, feasibility\, use of plausible examples\, supporting events\, and original concepts. \nOur evaluation committee will read your essay and will select from all entries received 5 entries that are judged to best develop and detail their vision of what will be\, in accord with the criteria given above. \nAll entrants will receive a Concord250 certificate of participation and the top 5 selected entries will receive $500 honorarium and will be published. \nIn 2075\, you will be able to reread your essay and realize how accurate your vision and prediction was! \n  \nWe thank you for your willingness to participate and offer your thoughts and expectations on our future.

SUMMARY:A Portrait of Ralph Waldo Emerson
DESCRIPTION:More than two centuries after his birth\, Ralph Waldo Emerson remains one of the presiding spirits in American culture. Yet his reputation as the starry-eyed prophet of self-reliance has obscured a much more complicated figure who spent a lifetime wrestling with injustice\, philosophy\, art\, desire\, and suffering. James Marcus introduces us to this Emerson\, a writer of self-interrogating genius whose visionary flights are always grounded in Yankee shrewdness. Co-sponsored by the Ralph Waldo Emerson Memorial Association.
