SUMMARY:2023 Art Ramble: Geo-Metric
DESCRIPTION:Art Ramble is an annual\, temporary public art exhibition in the Hapgood Wright Town Forest in Concord\, MA\, a collaboration of The Umbrella Art Center and Concord’s Division of Natural Resources (CDNR). Following Leave No Trace principles\, regional artists create site-specific artworks promoting appreciation of nature\, installed along Fairyland Pond and parts of the historic Emerson-Thoreau Amble connecting Concord Center to Walden Pond. On view September 1- November 19\, 2023\, with Artist Reception & Walkabout Saturday September 9 at 11AM (Rain Date: Sunday\, September 10 at 11AM). \nThe theme of this year’s exhibition is “Geo-Metric” – literally meaning Earth measurement. While traditionally\, basic geometry relies on axioms used to measure fixed shapes and construct solid objects that will stand the test of time\, “Geo-Metric” here refers to the ability to measure change. Our planet is constantly in motion and changes with exposure to light\, temperature\, weather\, human intervention and climate change. The season visibly changes from summer to fall over the run of the Art Ramble\, but what are the changes and patterns (geometric or otherwise) that we do not see? How can we make visible the patterns of nature and their disruption — raising awareness of the threats to our environment as well as nature’s keen ability to adapt and survive? \nThis year’s Art Ramble includes interactive installations as well as quiet\, contemplative sculptures. Several will change over the course of the exhibition as they interact with nature\, visitors\, and the seasons. Be sure to visit The Umbrella’s front lawn to see one additional “Geo-Metric” sculpture.

SUMMARY:Music & Folklore concert at Concert Conservatory of Music
DESCRIPTION:Imagine listening to a musical performance that transports you to a different time and place\, where you can experience the stories and emotions of people from various cultures and traditions.  Join the Concord Conservatory of Music (CCM)\, along with the Concord Museum\, for Music & Folklore concert and lecture on Friday\, October 27th at 7:30 pm. Together\, we will celebrate the oral folk traditions of various cultures through music. This event will take place at CCM at 1317 Main Street in West Concord. \nFolklore is a way of preserving and transmitting the stories\, wisdom\, and values of distinct cultures across time. Hear musical tales that reveal the similarities and differences between diverse societies and appreciate the richness and variety of our cultural heritage. Our guest speaker will be Frank Korom\, Professor of Religion and Anthropology at Boston University and Associate of Folklore and Mythology at Harvard College. His expertise\, research\, and teaching interests range from South Asian expressive traditions and contemporary religion to diaspora studies and transnationalism. \nBy combining chamber music and folktales\, composers can create works that are rich in narrative\, character\, and atmosphere. Experience how the works of Schubert\, Copland\, Bartok\, Esmail\, Mussorgsky\, and others bring to life the spirit and the magic of these narratives\, connecting us with our shared roots. This chamber music concert will feature CCM faculty artists soprano Rose Hegele\, violinist Angel Valchinov\, and pianist Yoko Hagino. \nPurchase $25 General Admission tickets in advance from ConcordConservatory.org or at the door. Tickets are free for students age 18 and under. Email info@concordconservatory.org or call (978) 369-0010 to learn more about CCM. Concord Conservatory of Music is the area’s non-profit community music school at 1317 Main Street in West Concord.
