SUMMARY:Native American Jewelry Show & Sale
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with their 15th anniversary\, Artisans Way in Concord Center will be hosting Diane Whitman of Sandia East over the weekend of Sept 26-27 for a show and sale of Native American Jewelry and Craft. Through her more than 35 years in the Native American jewelry business\, Whitman has established relationships with artisans from various tribes and pueblos in New Mexico. She travels to the Southwest several times a year to hand-select hundreds of pieces of jewelry\, accessories\, and pottery and has been the exclusive source of Native American craft for Artisans Way since their opening in Concord in 2011. \nOn Saturday\, September 26 and Sunday\, September 27\, Whitman will be displaying solid sterling silver jewelry pieces (bracelets\, earrings\, pendants\, rings\, etc.) made in the tradition of the Navajo Nation as well as beaded necklaces designed by the natives of the Santo Domingo Pueblo. In addition\, there will be silver pieces incorporating set stones and inlays created by Zuni tribe members and a broad collection of their hand-carved animal fetishes (small stone figures\, said to house a spirit which can give assistance to the owner that have been used by southwestern Native Americans since prehistoric times.) Examples of both traditional and contemporary styles are sure to appeal to all appreciators of Native American crafted jewelry. \nAlongside jewelry and fetishes\, Whitman will also be featuring a collection of individually selected ceramic pieces created by both Navajo and Acoma Pueblo tribe members.  The ceramic artists employ a variety of techniques\, including etching and coloring on traditional “horsehair” and black-and-white pottery. \nArtisans Way is both honored and excited to be representing and promoting the exceptional work of the Native American people. A collection this extensive\, of unmatched quality and variety\, is rarely found outside of Native American territory. The public is invited to this free event from 10am – 6pm on Saturday and 12pm – 5pm on Sunday. SUMMARY:2026 Annual River Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join the OARS Team and community members from across the watershed for a day of impact. Gather at your chosen site along one of our three rivers with your OARS staff and board site leaders to pick up trash and debris\, restoring habitats and supporting safe access to our waterways. Cleanup equipment will be provided by OARS. \nAll volunteers must register in advance and sign a volunteer waiver to participate. Specific site locations will be emailed to volunteers one week before the event. This allows us to determine the best and safest location to access the river based on current conditions. Each site is limited to 20 participants\, and registration will close on Thursday\, September 24th at 11:59pm.

DESCRIPTION:190 years ago\, while sitting in the upstairs study of the Old Manse\, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote in Nature that “the world shall be to us an open book.” His words set the stage for many literary greats who lived and visited at the Old Manse\, and who took inspiration from the landscape surrounding it. \nJoin us for a special linocut workshop under the tent and celebrate the intersections of literature and the natural world by creating your own bespoke bookplate to adorn your ever-growing library! Bookplates\, labels used to identify the owner of a particular book\, became popular in the nineteenth century and often featured elaborate\, personalized illustrations along with the owner’s name. We’ll take some time to draw inspiration from the grounds and gardens of the Old Manse before creating and printing our own unique designs! \nThis activity involves sharp carving tools and is recommended for those aged 12 and up. Pre-Registration for this program is required. Ticket cost covers all materials needed for the activity. \nCancellation Policy: In the event The Trustees cancels a program due to severe weather\, low enrollment\, or other circumstances\, we will notify registrants by email and issue a full refund or transfer to another scheduled program within two weeks of the cancellation. To cancel a reservation\, please contact the Old Manse 7 days prior to the start of the program to receive a full refund. DESCRIPTION:Visiting Artist Workshop with Yeonsoo Kim \n“Breathing Volume: Traditional Onggi and Buncheong Expression”\nSaturday\, August 15 (demonstration only) & Sunday\, August 16 (hands-on workshop) | 10 AM – 4 PM\nCost: Saturday only: $75 | Saturday & Sunday: $165 \nJoin us for a weekend workshop with visiting artist Yeonsoo Kim as he guides participants through the history of traditional Korean earthenware Onggi vessels\, their production and significance\, and how he incorporates these functional jars into expressive contemporary narratives. Kim will demonstrate the unique coil construction methods of Onggi pots and share the vibrant surface decoration techniques that illustrate his work. \nSaturday is a demonstration only that will focus on the “Breathing Volume” of Onggi. Following an artist talk on the history of Korean earthenware\, Kim will demonstrate the traditional “Tarae-ssaki” (coiling) and “Su-re-jil” (paddling) methods. Participants will see how rhythmic paddling creates structural integrity and dynamic volume in large-scale vessels. Saturday registration is open to all; no experience necessary. \nSunday is a hands-on workshop dedicated to the traditional Buncheong techniques of Sanggam (inlay) and Bakji (sgraffito). Participants will learn how to apply white slip over a darker clay body to create high-contrast imagery. Practicing on their own vessels and small demonstration tiles\, participants will explore how to carve out negative space (Bakji) and inlay fine lines (Sanggam) to translate personal narratives onto the clay surface. Sunday registration requires Saturday participation. Participants are encouraged to bring a leather-hard vessel to decorate; Umbrella will provide tiles for practice. Some ceramics experience recommended. \nAbout Yeonsoo: Yeonsoo Kim is a South Korean ceramic artist currently based in the United States. His work has received national and international recognition\, including being named one of NCECA’s Emerging Artists of 2020. Most recently\, he was honored with Best in Show at the 2025 Smithsonian Craft Show and was distinguished as the Featured Artist and Best in Show winner at Richmond Art and Design (2025).  \nHe has participated in prestigious residencies at the Archie Bray Foundation\, where he was awarded the Matsutani Fellowship and the Etchart-Sartre Fellowship. His residency experience also includes the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the Korea Ceramic Foundation. Kim’s practice continues to explore the profound dialogue between tradition and contemporary form\, focusing on the evocative “breathing volume” and the visceral presence of clay.

DESCRIPTION:Award-winning Firelight Theatre Workshop presents We Were Friends: To Bed/Eggs\, an episodic project of Firelight’s playful reimagining of Margaret Fuller and Ralph Waldo Emerson’s profound friendship set in today’s world. A late-night phone conversation between Ralph and Margaret takes the form of a radio play in which music\, film\, voice\, and the hypnotic hum of a sleep apnea machine lead the two friends into territory both more intimate and less certain than any they’ve experienced in each other’s presence. This episode will be followed by a talkback with Firelight’s actors and writers.
