SUMMARY:A Celebration Heard ‘Round the World – An Exhibition presented by the William Munroe Special Collections
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition features selections from the William Munroe Special Collections and the Town Archives\, including art\, photographs\, broadsides\, Town records\, and ephemera that explore how Concordians have celebrated the anniversary of the Battle of Concord\, or the “Concord Fight\,” on April 19\, 1775. Learn how celebrations have combined public interest and trends with historical commemoration and how these events have evolved. While mainstay traditions like parades\, invited speakers\, balls\, and re-enactments have prevailed and changed\, new traditions have also been introduced\, reflecting the community’s diverse interests. \nIn addition\, on the First Floor of the Main Library\, selections from the Town Archives and the William Munroe Special Collections offer a rich cache of manuscript and printed primary source materials providing insight into events leading up to\, on\, and following April 19\, 1775. Many of these documents offer small glimpses into the Concord Fight’s human impact and the American Revolution’s beginnings. Using these items\, we highlight the actions of soldiers\, Patriots of Color\, and women to tell a more complete story about the Concord Fight and the people who lived it.

DESCRIPTION:The Willard family has close ties to Concord and that historical day. Simon Willard was one of the founders of Concord in 1635. Isaac Davis\, the first officer killed in the American Revolution on that day and the person the Minuteman Statue was designed after\, was a descendant of Margery Willard and Dolar Davis\, who settled in Cambridge\, with Simon\, in 1634. A full week of events in Cambridge\, Harvard\, Boston\, Acton\, Lexington and Concord will celebrate our family’s connection to this pivotal time in our country’s history and the “shot heard ‘round the world”! DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Patriots’ Day at the Concord Museum \nOn April 19\, 2025\, the Concord Museum will host a special Community Day inviting the public to mark the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution. As a steward of the largest collection of objects that witnessed the day the “shot heard round the world” set the war in motion\, the Museum will offer a unique opportunity to commemorate this special anniversary through an unforgettable\, family-friendly experience. \nThe Community Day will include: \n· Free admission (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)\, including access to the immersive April 19\, 1775 galleries to see the original lantern from Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride and the new special exhibition Whose Revolution. \n· A family-friendly encampment of Revolutionary Living History (10:00 am – 5:00 pm). Billerica Colonial Minutemen will drill with muskets\, cook over an open firepit\, and demonstrate colonial crafts. \n· Family drop-in activities (9:00 am – 4:00 pm) inspired by the American Revolution and the new Barefoot Books publication Rise Up! \n· A Forum with Doris Kearns Goodwin (6:00 – 7:00 pm) on the American Revolution and its legacy. Advanced registration is sold out. Limited attendance available via a stand-by line and livestreamed. Free. \n· A free outdoor concert with the Goodwin Band from 6:30 – 7:30 pm\, finishing with a view of a town-wide drone show from the Museum’s front lawn. \n· Food trucks and ice cream stationed outside the Museum from 11:00 am to 8:00pm along with a wine and beer truck from 2:00 pm through the drone show.
