SUMMARY:Concord Women's Chorus program with chorus member\, Diane Taraz celebrating Women's History Month "Winning the Vote".
DESCRIPTION:Concord Women’s Chorus (CWC)\, fostering the power of women’s voices in song\, presents a special Women’s History Month event\, “Winning the Vote\,” a one-woman concert by performing artist and chorus member Diane Taraz\, on Sunday\, March 15\, 3 pm\, at First Parish in Concord\, 20 Lexington Road. \n“Winning the Vote” traces the long\, determined\, and often overlooked struggle to secure women’s suffrage in the United States\, culminating in the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Through historically rooted storytelling and lively\, compelling music\, Taraz brings to life the winding path that began as the nation itself was forming\, continued through the 1800s\, and became deeply intertwined with the movement to abolish enslavement. Though first proposed in 1878\, the amendment took 41 years to become law — a journey rich with resilience\, conflict\, and courage. \nA longtime member of Concord Women’s Chorus\, Diane Taraz is known for her engaging performance style and deep connection to American musical traditions. In this intimate\, educational\, and entertaining program\, she invites audiences to experience history not only as a narrative but as a living\, breathing expression through song. \nRefreshments will be served following the “Winning the Vote” performance. A suggested donation of $20 supports Concord Women’s Chorus and its mission-driven programming.

SUMMARY:Reading the Declaration of Independence at the North Bridge
DESCRIPTION:“And for the support of this Declaration\, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence\, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives\, our Fortunes\, and our sacred Honor.”\n\nOn April 19\, 1775 the Revolutionary War began at Lexington and Concord. Fourteen months later\, on July 4\, 1776 the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia adopted the Declaration of Independence\, permanently separating the 13 North American colonies from Great Britain. The war had taken on new meaning.Join us at Concord’s North Bridge\, site of the “shot heard round the world”\, at 2:30 p.m. on July 4th\, as we commemorate Independence Day. Hear the Declaration of Independence read by park volunteer Ed Hurley. Reflect on what it meant to those first hearing it in 1776 and what it means to us today. We will conclude the reading with a musket firing salute from 10th Massachusetts Regiment. \nThis event is co-sponsored by the Friends of Minute Man National Park

SUMMARY:Patriots of Color Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, 1:30pm Tours \nMarch 22\, 2025 – June 30\, 2025 \nBetween twenty and forty colonists who fought along the Battle Road on April 19\, 1775\, were of African descent or Indigenous people. Although excluded from required militia service prior to the war\, these individuals of color were the first of many to take up arms between 1775 and 1783. \nBy the end of the conflict\, an estimated 5\,500 African and Indigenous  men served on the colonial side. Unfortunately\, systemic racism and historical bias have erased or buried many records of Black and Indigenous people who played a prominent role in the founding of the United States. In this 90 minute walking tour we will examine the known history and stories of these Patriots of Color who fought for freedom locally both during the American Revolution and beyond. Minuteman National Park\, Robbins House and Concord Visitors Center staff will lead this tour examining the incredible stories of individuals who risked everything during their struggle for liberty\, equality\, and freedom for all.\n\nTour meets at the North Bridge Lower Lot.  All ages are welcome. SUMMARY:The Concord Players presents Songs For A New World
DESCRIPTION:As part of Concord’s 250th celebration The Concord Players are pleased to present “Songs for a New World”         June 20 – 22\, 2025\n\n\nThe Performing Arts Center\, 51 Walden Street\, Concord\, MA \nSongs for a New World uses the music of Jason Robert Brown to depict the most intense moment any person can go through: a moment of tremendous change.  The show is somewhere between musical and song cycle – a series of songs all connected by a theme: ‘the moment of decision’. \nWith a rousing score that blends elements of pop\, gospel and jazz\, featuring tight harmonies and darling vocals\, Songs for a New World transports its audience from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship bound for a new land\, to the ledge of a New York penthouse. Characters range from the mother of a Revolutionary soldier awaiting the end of the brutal war\, to a young man in the Bronx dreaming of becoming a famous basketball player\, to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches. \nA small\, but powerful\, diverse cast and a supercharged\, well-crafted score appeal to old and new generations alike as each character — in their own way — takes hold of that one moment and enters a new world. \nAccording to the composer\, Songs for a New World is “about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice\, or take a stand\, or turn around and go back.” \nPerformances: \nFriday\, June 20 at 7:30 pm/Saturday\, June 21 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm/Sunday\, June 22 at 2:00 pm \nTickets: $20.00 with reserved seating \nFor tickets and more information: concordplayers.org or call 978-369-2990

Free from March 22-June 30\, 2005.\n\nThis walking tour  is  co-sponsored by Minuteman National Park\, The Robbins House\,  and The Concord Visitors Center as a Concord250 Event and is funded by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.\n\nDonations in support of Black History Month in Concord may be made to The Robbins House here:  https://robbinshouse.org/donate/\n\nLearn More about Patriots of Color HERE\n\nhttps://robbinshouse.org/wp-content/uploads/PatriotsofColor-web.pdf\n\nhttps://www.nps.gov/mima/patriotsofcolor.htm

SUMMARY:Minute Man National Historical Park Memorial Weekend Event
DESCRIPTION:Minute Men to Minute Men\nNorth Bridge Visitor Center\nSaturday\, May 24\n10am – 4:30pm\nAs we launch into the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution\, Minute Man National Historical Park is working on programs that not only tell the story of the revolution but how it impacted the development of the United States. \nIn the spring of 1861\, President Abraham Lincoln put out a call for volunteers to suppress the secessionist rebellion brewing in the south. As a result\, thousands of men from local communities like Concord\, Acton\, and Lowell answered the call as “Minute Men.” \nShockingly on April 19\, 1861\, the 6th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Militia (Minute Men) came under attack by a secessionist mob while transferring trains in Baltimore\, Maryland. In a brutal melee the secessionist killed five militiamen and wounded 36 others. Overall\, the battle resulted in the death of twelve Baltimoreans. These casualties are often cited as the first combat casualties of the American Civil War. For many of the Massachusetts soldiers\, the symbology of their first combat experience occurring on the same day their grandfathers started the revelation was poignant. \nSchedule of Events:\n10:00 am~ Artifacts of the Pratt Street Riot and Living History at North Bridge Visitor Center *Ongoing throughout the day.\n10:00 am~ Uniforms and equipment of the 6th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia\n11:00 am~ The Radicalization of Massachusetts 1859-1861\n1:00 pm~ The Pratt Street Riot: Battlefield in a Box\n2:00 pm~ Minute Men of 1775 to Minute Men of 1861 *Musket Firing Demonstration*\n3:00 pm~ From Annapolis to Bull Run: The Massachusetts Volunteer Militia\n4:30 pm~ Event Ends
